Family Dentist Q & A

What is a family dentist?

As a family dentist, Dr. McLeod went through years of training to be able to take care of teeth for people of all ages. He offers a number of both general and specialty services to meet the needs of the whole family, including:

  • Examinations and cleanings
  • Placement of crowns and bridges
  • Management of oral health disorders
  • Cosmetic procedures (including teeth whitening)

What can I expect during a routine visit?

No one visit is the same for each patient, but you can expect some similarities. After you’re greeted by the friendly front office member, a dental hygienist begins the dental examination.

The hygienist takes X-rays, does an oral health screening, and completes a thorough cleaning of your teeth for Dr. McLeod’s examination. The hygienist might also talk to you about areas of concern, such as your diet or proper flossing technique for those hard-to-reach teeth.

After the cleaning, Dr. McLeod starts his examination. He reviews your X-rays and then examines your teeth, looking for cavities, gum disease, and other oral health concerns.

He also checks your temporomandibular joint, or TMJ, for health and function.

Can a family dentist take care of my children’s teeth?

Dr. McLeod is trained to take care of the oral health needs of all his patients, including children — you don’t need to see a pediatric dentist to get good dental care for your children.

Dr. McLeod has more than 40 years of experience helping improve the smiles of his patients in and around Georgetown, Texas. His gentle nature and sense of humor ease the anxiety some children, and parents, feel while sitting in the dental chair.

Can a family dentist take care of my aging parent’s teeth?

At his office in Georgetown, Texas, Dr. McLeod sees a variety of patients, but has developed a specialty in treating the teeth of older adults.

He has a good understanding of the changing oral health needs of the elderly, which might include:

  • Tooth loss and use of dentures
  • Dry mouth due to medication
  • Tooth decay
  • Shifts in tooth alignment

He also knows that tooth pain and poor dentition affects nutrition and the overall health of his older patients.

Dr. McLeod works closely with all his patients to ensure your whole family’s teeth remain healthy and strong.
